Become a Licensed Home
Support a Child
Foster families play a vital role in helping children in foster care reach their full potential. Foster families provide constant care, protection, and supervision, supporting the child’s service plan created by the private child welfare agencies in collaboration with the court to keep children safe and healthy.
We certify homes using an in-depth home study, including criminal and protective services background checks.

Becoming a foster parent is a courageous and compassionate choice- and we’re here to walk beside you every step of the way. We provide highly professional, personalized support, ensuring you are fully prepared for each child placed in your home. And when the unexpected happens, we’re available 24/7 to support you, your home, and your foster child.
Complete an Orientation
Completed at your home, orientations are typically two hours long and are required to obtain an application for licensure. Our trained specialist will be there to answer your questions, learn about your family, and review all State required materials with you.
Submit an Application
After orientation, you will submit an application for licensure and complete all finger printing and background checks. Our team will be here to help you every step of the way.
Work with a Licensing Specialist
Your licensing specialist will facilitate interviews and gather necessary paperwork to conduct your home study. Once your home study is written and complete, your specialist will send the application off to the State of Michigan for final review.
The licensing process involves an in-depth home study, including criminal and protective services background checks on all individuals over 18 years old living in the home. The licensing processes can take up to 6 months or longer depending on the submission of required materials and the completion of the required trainings.
