Volunteering for CCWM and making regular donations is a way for us to help our neighbors. When you see a young mother receiving diapers for her three small children from St. Gianna’s with gratitude, you know that your donations are used where they are most needed and uphold the dignity of life.
If you also hear the call to make a difference in our local communities, we hope you consider becoming a regular donor to CCWM.

I wish I had some great story about what drew me to St. Gianna’s. After retirement, I was looking for some volunteer activities and I ran across St. Gianna’s and I liked the concept. I don’t remember how I found it. Maybe it was providence…
Since I began volunteering, I became more and more impressed with the determination and persistence of our customers to improve their lives. persistence of our customers to improve their lives. At first, I would see the same customers each month and wondered if we were really helping them. Then I realized they were doing what they could to get through whatever current challenge they faced. And right now, the world isn’t making it easy for many who are trying. I have life much easier. Helping them made me recognize and appreciate the things I sometimes take for granted.
The more I volunteered, the more I got “hooked”. Some of our customers didn’t win the birth lottery, or life dealt them some tough circumstances, or they made a bad decision. But when they come to St. Gianna’s, the staff treats them just like a customer in a nice boutique. They are treated with the dignity they deserve. Maybe we can make their lives a little easier, even if for just a short time.
Many of our customers are grateful for the help we give, but they have taught me to be grateful for the people, experiences, and things in my life. I have been lucky and blessed in many ways and I think there is a moral obligation to help others who may not have been as blessed.
We donate to St. Gianna’s because they need help. Ironically, the more successful they are in helping others, the more resources they need. I have witnessed the care the staff takes with each dollar. I trust they will use the money wisely. Each employee I have met could do better financially by working somewhere else, yet they choose to stay at St. Gianna’s. I find that admirable.

They took them under their arms and provided assistance to help them overcome whatever issue they were dealing with. They had me hooked. My wife and I always felt a need to help the less fortunate and I saw this as fulfilling our principals. My values are aligned with the Catholic teachings to serve others. I learned this at a very young age.
As a board member, I heard dozens of stories about individuals and families, from all walks of life, and the troubles they were experiencing. Later on, you’d get updates on these individuals and the results they experienced were uplifting. How the help from CCWM changed their lives. As a member of the Board, I was involved in a committee with the research and construction of the new offices in Muskegon. I toured those offices and understood why something had to be done. My greatest joy was the day they were dedicated by the bishop. The excitement on the faces of the staff was priceless. I knew what difficulties we had with this project and every time I drive by the offices, it reminds me of what you can overcome when you ask for God’s help.
Though I’m not a Board member any more, I continue to support the ministry of CCWM because the need continues. As Jesus said, ‘The poor you always have with you”. When you use your time, talents and treasures to assist the less fortunate, it brings a joy to you that you can’t explain. I didn’t experience this type if joy until I got involved with CCWM. I get more back from those CCWM has helped than what I’ve given of my time, talents and treasures. This journey of supporting CCWM for many years and seeing the changed lives, is a reason to get involved. I learned a long time ago it’s not what to get out of life, it’s what you give. CCWM gave me that opportunity.
