Creating Strong Homes: Healthy Families

Catholic Charities West Michigan, 2025

Every home deserves a strong start, and Healthy Families West Michigan delivers vital support right to their doorstep to make that possible. Healthy Families is a nation-wide home visiting program focused on early childhood relational health, partnering with families to help the children in their lives thrive. With the program, trained Family Support Specialists partner with families in their homes to help with child development and education. The program focuses on empowering parents to achieve their own goals, offering opportunities for learning about positive parenting techniques, and supporting families access to healthcare.

Support at Home

Healthy Families is needed in West Michigan as an organization and resource that is committed to preventing child abuse and neglect before it happens. The program promotes services and resources that enable communities to thrive. It offers families a supportive person who comes to their home with fun and engaging activities to promote parent-child relationships and a space for parents to tell their story in a trusted and non-judgmental environment.

Making a Difference

The Healthy Families program and services contribute to happier, healthier futures for families by being a support to help put together the pieces of a happy and successful family. We believe all families have strengths, parenting is a journey, and children don’t come with instructions- that’s why we’re here to walk alongside families on their journey to a bright future.

The home visiting program has shown to promote nurturing relationships between parents and children, increasing parental focus on importance of children’s health and development, and cultivating a flourishing future for families. Healthy Families reaches 70,000 families each year, making it one of the most widely implemented early childhood home visiting models in the U.S.

“I am extremely grateful for this program and brag about it to everyone. My kids love the arts and crafts and the activities. It’s helped my family get to the library more often and it’s helped me as a mom. I don’t feel like my postpartum has affected as big of a part in my journey of motherhood. Coping mechanisms that I’ve had and the support that I’ve had because of this program are absolutely amazing and I’m extremely grateful for them.”  – Mom and Healthy Families Participant
